What We Believe

Statement of Beliefs

“May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” John 17:23

Our Beliefs

God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

We believe in and we surrender our lives to the one God who made the heavens and earth and who breathed life into humanity. We worship and praise the Father who spoke the world into existence. We worship and praise Jesus, the Son, who died upon the cross to redeem us from sin. We worship and praise the Holy Spirit who is the seal of our salvation.

• Our devotion, total commitment and ultimate loyalties are to the Father, who is over all and in all and through all; to Jesus the Son, who has been declared both Lord and Christ; and to the Holy Spirit, who lives in us and empowers us to overcome the workings of the sinful nature (Acts 2:22-36, Romans 8:12-28).

• The cornerstone of our faith is our belief in Jesus Christ. Everything we hold dear in our faith originates from his words and his way of life (John 3:16, John 12:47-48, Hebrews 12:2, 1 John 2:5-6).

•  Our eternal purpose is to know God and to glorify him as God and let our life shine so others will see God (Matthew 5:14-15, Ephesians 3:19-20).

Jesus and His Word

We believe that Jesus is the only way to come into a relationship with God, and our teaching is centered on His life, His death, His resurrection, His timeless teachings, and His ultimate calling to every man and woman to follow Him.

Discipleship

In light of the example set by the early disciples of Jesus, every member of our congregation is encouraged to be devoted to reading, studying, and applying the Bible in their every-day life situations. Although written thousands of years ago, we believe that the Scriptures are inspired by God and have tremendous relevance for our 21st-century lives.

Relationships

In addition to believing that the Bible must be the standard for our lives, we emphasize the need for one-another relationships where deep friendships and a strong sense of family can be developed and maintained. Whether in one-on-one, small group, or congregational settings, we use these relationships to encourage each other in what we hold to be both the greatest commandment and our greatest desire—loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Salvation

We believe the world needs Jesus and His healing words. We actively seek to save the souls of New York City and it’s suburbs. We also help support our sister churches and ministries in upstate New York, Africa, and the Caribbean. We are part of a larger worldwide fellowship called the International Churches of Christ.
